PROGRAMMES

NPA isn't just one programme. The fellowship gives emerging producers their first credit. NPA+ takes that experience and builds toward a first feature. Animate Reality opens the same door into animation production, a part of the industry that's never had a dedicated training ground for producers in The Netherlands. And New Producers Curaçao takes everything we've learned and builds it from the ground up again, for a part of the Kingdom the Dutch film industry has long left out. Four programmes, one pathway, from a first short film to a long-term career, and from Rotterdam, to the Caribbean.

Five years in, that pathway is becoming reality.

NPA Fellowship (2022-2026)

The 18-month NPA Fellowship Program supported emerging producers from underrepresented communities in telling their own stories. It was created to address unequal access to opportunities by offering a structured pathway into the Dutch film industry.

Through a focused curriculum, the program combined hands-on training in all aspects of producing with personal development in leadership and creative ownership. Fellows were mentored by established industry professionals, gaining guidance, feedback, and access to valuable networks.

The fellowship also provided funding opportunities and curated connections with key industry players. By offering time, resources, and support, it helped participants build sustainable careers and contributed to a more inclusive and representative Dutch film landscape.

NPA+

The leap from short films to features is one of the hardest in a producer's career, and one of the least supported.

NPA+ is built for that moment. Through a year-long programme of intensive coaching, skills training, and mentorship, it equips producers with the creative, strategic, and leadership skills the feature world demands.

Participants leave with stronger networks, clearer positioning, direct visibility with key film funds, and the confidence to take on leading roles in feature filmmaking.

New Producers Curaçao Programme in development

New Producers Curaçao is a fellowship for emerging Curaçaoan filmmakers ready to make their debut short film, with local crew, international ambition, and full support to see it through.

Fellows receive the tools, the time, and the budget to produce their first short on the island, and leave with an official producer credit and a foundation for a lasting career.

Developed in close collaboration with Instituto Buena Bista (IBB), whose deep roots in Curaçaoan creative culture make this fellowship possible, and led on the ground by NPA alumna Elizabeth Francisco, NPC is an important step toward representation from across the Dutch Caribbean.

Local stories. International reach. A lasting film culture rooted in the island.

Animate Reality Programme in development

The Netherlands has a world-class animation sector, and we're building the producer layer to carry it even further.

Animate Reality is a hands-on production programme for Dutch filmmakers working at the intersection of documentary and animation. Animation, at its best, can tell truths that live-action alone cannot reach, making the invisible visible, giving shape to memory, trauma, and experience beyond the camera's lens. Five teams, each made up of a producer, director/writer, and animator/creative director, develop a non-fiction project from idea to pitch, guided by mentors from the national and international animation industry.

Non-fiction is where they start. The goal is bigger: training strong, industry-ready animation producers who can carry any animated story, fiction or non-fiction, from concept to screen.

A collaboration between New Producers Academy and Playgrounds.
